Wikipedia Now Personalizing Donation Requests
By Peter Clark-Deutsch
The website Wikipedia is in need of donations again, but this time the world’s largest encyclopedia is personalizing it’s messages towards readers based on the article they looked up.
“We figured we’d get more people’s attention if we stated to them the exact reason why they were using our site in the first place,” said Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales. “It shows that we know our readers well and that we care.”
Since the marketing switch, Wikipedia has raised 10 times the amount of donations they normally receive, including shipments containing individual cups of coffee.
